The diagnostic engineers at OELCHECK are repeatedly confronted with the following question:
“Since switching to a new engine oil, oil consumption has increased significantly. How can that be?”
In practice, it is often found that after switching to a different product, oil consumption is either lower or sometimes higher.
The “human factor” often also needs to be taken into account.
In addition, however, there are indeed oil-specific factors that influence “oil-dependent oil consumption” and result in the experiences described above.
The well-known evaporation loss test (Noack) required in the specifications does not always provide a satisfactory answer to this question.
