The most important facts in brief:

The maintenance, monitoring and lubrication of marine diesel engines is a complex and labour-intensive task for which you need in-depth expert knowledge. 2-stroke and 4-stroke marine diesel engines require different types of lubrication due to their different structures. Different types of fuel also have a considerable influence on the condition and changes in the lubricants. In addition, the current statutory environmental guidelines must always be observed.

The latest MARPOL regulations in this area have led to a trend towards the use of gas-powered marine engines. These are operated either completely with gas, as a dual-fuel or as an ignition jet engine with pre-injection. To run smoothly, they require a different type of lubrication than marine diesel engines. In order to avoid problems before they even occur, regular monitoring by means of oil analyses is essential for diesel and gas engines.

In our 90-minute, practice-orientated online training course in English, you will learn everything about the correct lubrication of marine diesel engines. Always taking into account the current MARPOL specifications, you will expand your knowledge of the various requirements for lubricants depending on the design of the engine and the type and quality of the fuel used. The special features of 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines and of auxiliary engines and generators are also discussed. In the area of 2-stroke engines, the reciprocal influences of system oils and cylinder oils are discussed and the trend towards gas engines is described in more detail for 4-stroke engines. Real-life examples are included during the online training to ensure a transfer into practice. These examples illustrate once again how necessary and important professional and regular oil monitoring is for engines and the benefits it brings.
