‘Since switching to a new engine oil, oil consumption has increased significantly. How can that be?’
In practice, it is often found that after switching to a different product, oil consumption is either lower or sometimes higher.
Often, the ‘human factor’ must also be taken into account.
In addition, however, there are indeed oil-specific factors that influence ‘oil-dependent oil consumption’ and result in the experiences described above.
The well-known evaporation loss test (Noack) required in the specifications does not always provide a satisfactory answer to this question.
